Cook it Up Kitty – What Kitty wants, Kitty gets.

 Good News for Kitty!

Sugar Increases the “happiness” neurotransmitter serotonin.

This Valentine’s day give your sweetie something sweet.  It’s a good way to quickly lift the mood . . . in the short run*.

Cooooooookies!

Kitty knows

Eating refined sugars, with white flour, or other processed carbohydrates gives her the fastest serotonin boost.

Three blue hearts. No one will notice if one is missing.

Kitty doesn’t know

* In the long run sugar may set up an addictive craving cycle and is not healthy because her  blood sugar drops after a spike which causes her to eat more sugar cookies . . .

Two blue dotted hearts. No one will notice if one is gone.

But for one special day a year Kitty can indulge!

  1. Freddie, CDP, and Kitty,
Thanks again for the invitation to treat my nervous system with some sugar. I had one (1) of my Valentine’s chocolates. I feel much better, thank you. When cat’s eat catnip, is there a parallel chemical boost for a feline? Is there any treat that a dog can self-medicate with? Is it possible for a cat to have too much catnip? Thanks for keeping your blog.

    • Dear United,
Hoo hoo hoo–do cats go crazy with catnip. I have my very own self witnessed this. They get wacko, with glazed eyes, clinging to their scratching posts so they don’t fall down. It is a sad sight to see. I would definitely say they sometimes have toooooooo much catnip. We canines, however, are much more dignified. You may have noticed that. We do NOT cling to trees or fire hydrants to stay upright. Sensibly, if we want to lay down, we circle three times and lay down! We do not let our appetites rule us! Well, maybe except in the case of treats. However we manage to control our desires enough to sit up, beg, roll over or dance in order to get said treats.

    • Dear United Divided,
P.S. We Canine’s self-medicate with unabashed unconditional love which some human’s have yet to discover.
P.P.S. You only ate ONE (1)?!!!!!!!!!
